Seltek's Career Management Programme: Five Steps to Heaven! In these uncertain times, more people are feeling that their jobs are in jeopardy. Some may have actually lost their job. For the latter, there are a number of excellent websites to help you: http://www.zoomjobs.com/site.pages/pro-job_tips_unemployed.html for example, caught my eye as being lengthy but worthwhile reading. For anyone who is interested in finding a new, more secure, more lucrative career opportunity, Seltek is here to help you. Our consultants, all trained to the highest level and exceeding the rigorous standards set by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation ( http://www.rec.uk.com/home ) are equipped to help you find a new spiritual home. Step 1 Send your CV (or updated CV if you’ve been in contact with us before) to Guy Buncombe Guy@SeltekConsultants.Co.UK Identify two or three people from your past who would be prepared to give you a reference. These could be your managers, or they could be peers, or other senior individuals in the firms you worked for. If you have been in sales, or a similar customer-facing occupation, satisfied customers may be willing to speak for you. Step 2 One of our consultants will hold an in-depth conversation with you to understand your requirements Step 3 In discussion with your consultant, identify as many companies as you can that you feel your skills and experience would interest. These could be companies you know of, competitors, companies represented on delegate lists at exhibitions and shows you may have attended, or your own researches on the internet and elsewhere. Step 4 Your consultant will contact every one of those ‘target’ companies and speak personally to the Managing Director, or the most senior manager available, to explain your background and the benefits you could bring to the company. Step 5 Your consultant will keep you regularly informed – daily – as to the results of your marketing campaign. Our experience shows that for well qualified people, with good references, twenty calls to target companies will yield five interviews and two job offers. Why would you get Seltek to do this for you, when you could do it yourself? Well, the short answer is, you could! However, most people are unwilling to ‘sell’ themselves proactively, and Seltek Consultants can ‘sell’ you in a powerful, professional, and above all successful way! This service is completely free, as indeed are all the services we provide to work-seekers.

The First Rule of Interviews!Either by volition or necessity, more people are going to interviews these days. Often they go not because they want to, but because they (feel they) need to. In those conditions, it is easy to understand why people go to interviews in a half-hearted manner: I don’t really want to be here! I’d much rather stay put in my old job! Well, two bits of bad news: firstly, interviewers can actually read your mind! Actually this is not true, but it is true to say that if you feel negative about something, you cannot help but give out negative subliminal signals, which perceptive people will pick up. And interviewers are normally perceptive people! Now the good news! It is entirely within your control to deal with this issue. If you really harbour doubts about a job you’re about to interview for, don’t go! You’ll be wasting your own time, and you’ll be wasting the time of others. And it’s a waste of petrol/train fares etc. And it’s un-ecological. If you are merely uncertain – and who is certain about that which they do not know? – then consider this: the job you are about to interview for may be the very best thing that will happen in your life! You could find in this new company untold riches, important and fulfilling work, fame, fortune, new friends and who knows, maybe romance!? OK, it’s unlikely – it’ll probably be just another job! – but..a million to one shot ..it could be The Special One. With this in mind, you must therefore do everything you can to win the job offer, and there are volumes of advice on how to shine at interview, the exemplar of such advice being found on the Seltek website http://www.seltekconsultants.co.uk/interviewadvice.htm If you go to interviews with genuine desire in your heart, interviewers will forgive your muddy shoes and fish-like handshakes, but if you go along with a take-it-or-leave-it attitude, then, sadly they will leave you, no matter how brilliant your CV, skills and appearance may be. This is the first Rule of Interviews! |
Inspiration for All!Following the inspirational motto of Barack Obama's election campaign 'Yes, we can!' we wholeheartedly recommend you to invest 75 minutes of your time watching this: http://gaia.world-television.com/wef/worldeconomicforum_annualmeeting2009/default.aspx?sn=7064&lang=en It is the opening address to the recent World Economics Conference held in Switzerland, given by Benjamin Zander, the Conductor of The Boston Philharmonic Orchestra. It is uplifting, motivating and - in parts - quite moving.
It was kindly sent to me by the excellent Neil Burns of the equally excellent George James Ltd ( www.georgejamesltd.co.uk ) - sales and management trainers to the gentry. Many thanks to Neil! |
It's 'Poke Fun at Economists' Time!Three economists and three mathematicians were going for a trip by train. Before the journey, the mathematicians bought three tickets but the economists only bought one. The mathematicians were glad their stupid colleagues were going to pay a fine. However, when the conductor was approaching their compartment, all three economists went to the nearest toilet. The conductor, noticing that somebody was in the toilet, knocked on the door. In reply he saw a hand with one ticket. He checked it and the economists saved 2/3 of the ticket price. Gratitude: http://netec.mcc.ac.uk/JokEc.html |
Hot JobsSpring is sprung! The grass is ris. I wonder where the birdies is? The bird is on the wing! Well OK, perhaps this is a little premature, but I have seen a snowdrop. Plus...now that the recession is over, and Barack Obama's $800 Bn. economic rescue package will no doubt save us all from our sins, it's time to think positively and move forward into a bright future. Who was it who said 'The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades!' ? (Ans. Timbuk3) Here are some of the most glittering job opportunities we've been offered over the last few weeks, and some of the best candidates - the brightest stars in the dawn sky:
