The Secret of Interview Success!

Do you remember when you were a child, taken to Auntie Flo's for tea, and no matter how dull and dry the petit madeleine she gave you, you were required to bid your adieu by saying 'Thank you very much Auntie Flo, the cake was lovely and I enjoyed it very much' before barfing it up on the way home to your bags of scrumptious Milky Bars etc?

Well, here's the secret to interview success: unless you're 100% sure you're not interested in the job you've just interviewed for - if you are interested in it, or if you are undecided, then you must end the interview by strongly expressing your interest. This is known as 'closing the interview'.

At the end of the interview, the interviewer will almost certainly say something like "Well, that's the end of the interview. Is there anything else you'd like to ask or say?"

To which you should reply "I'd just like to say how very interested I am in this opportunity. I'm sure I can do a good job for you. When can I start?/When will you let me know if I've got the job"

Just don't say "Goodbye Auntie Flo" and don't say "I'll look forward to hearing from you" which would be worse!

Ageism is Rubbish!

Congratulations to fifteen-year-old Tom Daley who won the 10m platform competition at the Fina World Championships in Rome!

Also to fifty nine year old Tom Watson who came first equal over seventy two holes in The Open golf championship at Turnberry. OK, he was defeated in the playoff by Stewart Cink - some twenty three years his junior - who thoroughly deserved to take the trophy, although he broke a lot of hearts in doing so.

What this teaches us is that excellence is unrelated to age. Every individual should be assessed by their achievements and their attitude.

Here at Seltek we pay no attention to age whatsoever, only trying to assess the quality of individuals as it applies to our clients' requirements.

So come along you young shavers, and you greybeards..if you're interested in scientific sales and marketing, we want to hear from you!

Summer Holiday Fun!

An American touring Spain stopped at a local restaurant following a day of sightseeing. While sipping his sangria, he noticed a sizzling scrumptious looking platter being served at the next table. Not only did it look good, the smell was sensational. He asked the waiter "What is that you just served? It looks absolutely wonderful!" The waiter replied "Ah, I can tell you have excellent taste! Those are bull's testicles from the bull fight this morning. It is a local delicacy." The American, though momentarily discombobulated, said "What the hell, I'm on vacation. Bring me an order!" The waiter replied "I'm so sorry Señor, there is only one serving per day because there is only one bull fight each morning. If you come early tomorrow and place your order, we will be sure to save you this delight!" The next morning the American returned, placed his order, and then, that very evening, he was served the one and only special dish of the day. After a few bites, and inspecting the contents of his platter, he called to the waiter and said "These are delicious, but they are much, much smaller than the ones I saw you serve yesterday!" The waiter shrugged his shoulders and replied "Si Señor, sometimes the bull wins!"

Hot Jobs

The good news: England have beaten The Australians at Lords in The Ashes cricket series, for the first time in seventy five years. The bad news is that this will probably mark the start of another seventy five year wait for it to happen again. However, let's not dwell on that, and revel in the joy of Andrew Strauss's England team's victory, and particularly Freddie Flintoff's bulldog bowling spirit.

Fingers crossed that the rest of the series will go our way! In the meantime, if you are looking for a new job, here is a selection of googlies, yorkers and bouncers to bowl you over, or if you're an employer with a job to fill, some great candidates who could rack up a century quicker than you can say 'How are we going to hit our sales target?'
