Expansion at Seltek!Seltek welcomes Kristina Southcott to the team in Bishop's Stortford, working on commercial jobs in the life science sector, from graduate trainee to director. Kristina is one of the brightest stars from last year's crop of natural science graduates from Cambridge University (Queens). Subsequent experience as a medical representative has given her a powerful insight into the role of the salesperson in science. Hailing originally from Wales, Kristina is interested in rugby! What a surprise! Apart from this she is one of life's great organisers; at college she organised just about everything as President of The Milner Society (Queens' College Natural Science Society, and emerges from this background as a consummate 'maker-of-things-to-happen' ! Now she wants to organise...your next career move! So if you are looking for help in achieving this, please contact Kristina on 01279 657716 or email kristina@seltekconsultants.co.uk |
Scientific recruitment in biotechnology bucks the trend for 2010!A recent survey of over 550 scientific organisations shows a UK-wide positive outlook for 2010 recruitment. Although the UK science labour market had a tough 2009, shedding both permanent and contract staff, the biotechnology sector has been resilient to the consumer downturn and saw an increase in the requirement for skilled scientists. This sector also bucks the trend by predicting a significant increase in the recruitment of contract staff in the coming 12 months too. However, the majority of respondents in this sector found it much harder to recruit staff in 2009 than 2008. From all the sectors in the survey, biotechnology were second only to Oil/Gas/Petrochemicals in hiring the most permanent staff compared to the previous year, however they are now near the top in terms of numbers of permanent staff they are planning to hire. This positive trend continues for contract scientific staff hire, although the level looks to remain stable rather than increase during 2010. This differs when the question is asked in terms of general use of contract staff across all disciplines including admin, finance etc. as this has seen a decrease throughout 2009. |
Learn from Others! In a job interview for policemen the applicants are shown a profile picture of a man, and the interviewer says, "The job that you're applying for requires powers of observation. Make one observation about this man." The first applicant enters and says, "This man has just one ear." The second applicant enters and says, "This man has one ear." Then the third applicant gets up to go in for his interview. The first two guys are out there and they tell him, "The guy that's giving the interview doesn't like to hear that the man in the picture has one ear." So the third applicant enters, stares at the picture for a while and finally he says, "This man wears contact lenses." |
Hot JobsCongratulations to Amy Williams for becoming Britain's first individual gold medalist in The Winter Olympics since skater Robin Cousins triumphed at Lake Placid in 1980. As a person whose other name is the same, The Editor is impressed that Ms Williams can travel at speeds up to 90 mph on a bob skeleton she chooses to nickname Arthur. Why don't you try careening into a new career, with one of Seltek's Champion Opportunities, and seize a little gold for yourself?

Hot CandidatesThe Premier Football League is hotting up as it begins to enter the final stretch of the season! Chelsea have put some clear water between themselves and their nearest contenders. But Manchester United and Arsenal are by no means out of the running. And the dogfight for the coveted forth place, and entry into European football is like a schoolyard scrap - perm any one out of six teams if you fancy a longshot bet. Heck, even West Ham (The Editor's Pick!) are rising through the ranks like an upside down meteor! But...if you are an employer, looking for your next Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney, or Carlton Cole to fire you into the front ranks of your industry sector, then look no further than Seltek's Premier League Candidates!
